A/Prof Michael Slancar is committed to delivering world-class, personalised cancer care to his patients. He is passionate about staying at the forefront of leading clinical research and specialises in developing evidenced-based treatment plans for those in his care.

A/Prof Michael Slancar is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Southport. He commenced specialist medical oncology training in Europe under the auspices of the European School of Oncology, and completed training in Sydney, Australia. He then worked as a medical oncologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney until he relocated to Queensland in 1998 to establish Gold Coast Oncology, a co-ordinated cancer care practice in Southport. Additionally, he founded Gold Coast Oncology Research Pty Ltd, a private organisation specialising in international clinical trials. In 2008, he transitioned his established cancer practice and research centre to HOCA and contributed to the establishment of HOCA Gold Coast at Southport – now known as Icon Cancer Centre Southport – the first truly comprehensive cancer centre in the region.

A/Prof Slancar’s extensive clinical expertise encompasses a wide spectrum of solid neoplastic affections, displaying particular fervour for breast carcinoma, gynaecological neoplasms, colorectal malignancies, pulmonary neoplasms, and prostatic carcinoma. His practice offers comprehensive management of any malignancy at any stage of the disease, from initial diagnosis through to palliative care.

An internationally recognised principal investigator, A/Prof Slancar has a keen interest in clinical trials and continues to be involved in a number of international studies on the treatment of solid tumours. He also has access to several clinical studies available for treatment of major malignancies. A/Prof Slancar further specialises in personalised medicine, cooperating with numerous international groups working on the best individualised care for cancer patients, based on precise tumour profiling.
